New statement from the MN Office of Cannabis Management says the agency is "disappointed" by the federal hemp changes and is planning to meet with folks from the hemp industry, state officials and policymakers to discuss a path forward.
From the statement: Minnesota has been a leader in the hemp space. As entrepreneurial businesses—including Minnesota’s craft breweries—led the way in establishing the hemp-derived THC beverage industry, the state established an effective regulatory framework to protect public health and safety. We are in the process of licensing these businesses now. We are disappointed to see the federal government make such significant changes in the federal framework. Instead, we believe that a system that allows Minnesota’s approach in chapter 342—licensing businesses, testing products, clear packaging and labeling, and mandatory age verification—is the best way to ensure the products that Minnesotans are seeking are available and safe. This is a complex issue that will require careful evaluation of the impacts on existing and still-establishing regulatory systems. The Office of Cannabis Management will work with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the Minnesota Legislature, hemp businesses, and cannabis industry participants to understand and address the specific impact on Minnesota’s hemp-derived THC industry. While further assessment is ongoing, the office will continue to implement chapter 342 as charged. We are preparing to host a discussion soon with participants of the hemp industry, state officials and policy makers to discuss the impacts of this new law and how Minnesota will chart a path forward.

The Minnesota Star Tribune requested records of Frey’s phone calls and texts between Oct. 23 — the day a Black man named Davis Moturi was shot by his neighbor — and Oct. 28, the day Frey defended the police’s handling of the case. But the mayor’s office said it had no such records, even though the mayor’s office said he and the police chief were in regular communication that week. The mayor had texted and called Star Tribune reporters and editors regarding coverage.

Came home from vacation to find we lost a sweet pepper and half a poblano plant in the big storm. Not great but not as bad as I expected. Hopefully should be able to do sausage and peppers tomorrow with the salvaged sweet peppers at least.

Vance Boelter wasn’t acting like a man ready to go to war. On the afternoon of June 11, the barrel-chested 57-year-old sat with his wife, Jenny, and sister watching family members play softball, his casual demeanor belying what brewed behind his dark eyes. “Everything seemed fine,” said Mary Kavan, a longtime friend of Boelter’s family. “He didn’t seem a little off or anything.” Yet Boelter had already taken the first steps in a plan to assassinate Minnesota politicians and abortion advocates, according to federal and state charging documents. Two days earlier, he’d gone to Fleet Farm and bought a tactical rifle case, ammunition, a flashlight and lettering to make the license plate on his black Ford Explorer read “POLICE.”

Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley described a confrontation with the suspect dressed as a police officer when police arrived at Hortman's home. After firing at officers, the suspect retreated into the house and escaped out the back, he said.

They went to the threshold and saw a man that was down and dragged him out to safety, he was pronounced dead shortly after. Police then went in with a drone to identify Hortman dead in the home. “This was not a real police officer, this was a person who was clearly impersonating a police officer wearing the trust of this badge to manipulate their way into the home,” Bruley said. The suspect drove a vehicle that looked exactly like an SUV squad equipped with emergency lights, a Taser and badge. There was “no question that if they were in this room you would assume that they are a police officer.” A massive manhunt is underway for the suspect, who is believed to be on foot. Bruley said police are now arriving at residences in pairs of two or more. Officers will not be alone. Police are searching for people of interest."
