It's merely frustration that when English language news reporters go to any other European country to report on an interesting event (like a museum heist, for example), the locals will give them quotes in English. The French will give excellent quotes, but insist on doing them in French.

The point has been raised by fairly smart people that my proposed route is a bit problematic. I am willing to revise my initial post to say that the west side is ok as long as they put a station at Wyong.

In that case the perfect place for a station is Wyong but they're bypassing it and going straight to Gosford.

Most of it is quite elevated although I agree you'd run into a bit of trouble between Belmont and Swansea and between Budgewoi and The Entrance. Budgewoi is already flooding on storm surges.

Population reasons. They say they want a Lake Macquarie station, and the eastern side of the lake is more heavily populated than the west. Although I suppose they might be hoping for a boom in the Morisset area.

The west side of the lake, where they're proposing a HSR station, has a very small population. Also, if they are going to go west of the lakes they should have a station at Wyong. They're not going to though - everyone in the Central Coast will have to keep traipsing to Gosford.
