They rereleased it in theaters in 1986 so it tracks. Still crazy to me that it was an active property for Disney up until Splash Mountain.

Robert Benton’s middle of the pack 1930s mobster flick was a critical & commercial failure but in retrospect I think it deserves more credit. Hoffman brings gravitas to Dutch Schultz at the center of a powerhouse cast. Its not the best gangster movie but one that is definitely worth a reevaluation.

I’ve often said I feel like I’ve grown up warching Ethan Embry on screen and this was a formative entry point.
