Today is not “the peaceful transfer of power.” It is not “the 🇺🇸 system working.” It is a total failure of the constitutional order, on the order of Robert E. Lee becoming president in 1872. The media will get this completely wrong, but that does not make it less true or important to keep saying.
You don't have to ask <if> or <when> 🇺🇸 democracy will backslide. It already has. The constitutional order & the rule of law, as such, are dead. What is going to happen on January 20 is the functional equivalent of Robert E. Lee taking the oath of office four years after Appomattox.
It's blasphemous that Trump will stand on the steps of the institution he attacked while swearing an oath he violated
