Can't completely blame them, honestly.

What you said could be true in a politically neutral & technologically evolving scenario.

But the scenario it's definitely not politically neutral, and the technology is actively bent to political goals.

Risks are high, therefore the investments are low.

That's exactly how an LLM works: the selection process is mostly stochastic so it's numbers above everything else.

That of course has profound implications starting from: spamming as a tactic suddenly becomes even more interesting.

Yup, they started ramping up referrals by mid-2025... Most probably to get noticed and help build the narrative as "Google killers". Then they quickly backpedaled because the business model requires that the user stays on-platform.

Nope, none that I know of. Matomo supports only Google Analytics import... but I guess one can write down some Matomo plugin that leverages the Piwik Pro API? Just for On Premise instances though.
