Just got an email about a new Turner book and honestly it’s a perfect encapsulation of how divorced from current debates in academia most of these TV programmes have become. Depressing, really. And tbh I blame the producers and their research, not the scholars.

The EU court has ruled that Poland must recognise the marriage of a Polish same-sex couple who married in Germany, even though Polish law does not allow such marriages.

The ruling requires Poland to change its system for recognising such marriages so as not to discriminate against same-sex couples.

Of course. And it’s also local jobs for a lot of people who aren’t academics — there’s a tendency in Labour I think to assume that it’s just pretentious middle class people losing privileged positions, but my uni employs about 6,000 people and the vast majority of them aren’t lecturers.
