Sigh. Not if they couldn’t get the votes otherwise. People with nothing to lose politically should be the most politically brave. This vote is literally the opposite. Those with “nothing to lose” caved.

I’ll shut up. Clearly you give Schumer a benefit of the doubt I think he does not deserve.

If standing up didn’t work, you should have tried napping through the vote.

But they weren’t always the only way to have a “retirement plan.” Also, how long is ALWAYS in your view? Housing as a middle class investment was largely created by FDR, 401ks came about in 1978, open-access trading in the 1990s.

Plus the US has a long history of letting the poor and elderly starve

I’m convinced that a “happy coincidence” of housing and the stock market being the primary means of accumulating enough wealth to be able to retire without ending up on the street is making people afraid of anything that might hinder our monied masters’ insatiable greed.

Apparently we are suppose to believe Durbin walked into the trap and Schumer somehow couldn’t convince the man responsible for selling the party line to the rest of the Senators.

Poor Schumer. /s
November 10, 2025 at 5:01 PM
You’re right, Durbin is the whip, I misspoke. The #2 in command, whose job is literally to convince people to vote in the interest of the party went against party leadership?

Again, Schumer is at best ineffective, or leadership is dysfunctional.

More likely this was orchestrated for deniability.

Schumer, at best, was not whipping the Senate effectively. None of the Senators that “broke ranks” face an election challenge, this comes across way more like “plausible deniability,” than him actually opposing accepting the deal.

I agree. Stop cuddling up to the alt-right. Trans rights are human rights.

I don’t know Allah-las, but I love the Lodge Room.

I’m an old, and I have lived in the same California town with a south facing beach for 20 years. It’s not as extreme as being on a peninsula but the previous 40 years tell me it’s wrong.

Austerity never applies to the wealthy.
