CARGO. JOURNAL FOR CULTURAL AND SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY Call for Papers (Special Issue) Ethnographies of Learning and Teaching Across Different Cultural Contexts Cargo. Journal for Cultural and Social Anthropology Hana Cervinkova and Josefine Wagner (Eds.) We are seeking contributions to a special issue of Cargo. Journal for Cultural and Social Anthropology focused on contemporary ethnographic research of learning and teaching across different cultural contexts. Situated at the intersection of education and anthropology, this special issue invites authors to examine the social discourses that shape contemporary educational practices, theories and policies. We welcome a wide range of submissions from both anthropologists and educational researchers engaging with diverse educational contexts (both formal and informal). Articles must be written in the English language and can range from full-length empirical research studies and theoretical contributions (5,000 - 8,000 words) to shorter papers featuring reflections or interviews (2,000 - 4,000 words). Cargo. Journal for Cultural and Social Anthropology (ISSN online 2450-3452) is a peer-reviewed full open-access journal published by the University of Pardubice, the University of Hradec Kralové and the Czech Association for Social Anthropology (CASA). The Journal focuses on the theory-and-practice of ethnographic research and critical discussion of anthropological theory and knowledge. The journal publishes academic articles, interviews with anthropologists, and texts debating methods of teaching anthropology, short research reports and book reviews. https://cargojournal.org/index.php/cargo If you are interested in contributing to the thematic issue, please send us a provisional title and a short abstract of maximum 100 words of your intended contribution by January 15, 2026. Photo d'une huile d'aneth toute fraiche, prête à être ajoutée à la soupe de champignons. L'huile est verte fluo. Photo de deux bols de soupe de champignons avec deux cuillères d'huile d'aneth. L'huile est bien verte et flotte à la surface de la soupe (c'est extrêmement satisfaisant), elle donne un goût super frais à la soupe, c'est tellement bon.

The first thing I found interesting to explore was the distinction between history and memories. How can we approach memories in a democratic way, incorporating the notion of consent (towards the past, present and future)?

(I love that each part of the book starts with a definition of fall.)

Finally finding a needle for Nålebinding at the Oslo Kulturhistorisk Museum. I remember discussing it with @drnwillburger.bsky.social 2-3 years ago, now I'll be able to try it out 🧶
Pleated town dress on display at the Oslo Kulturhistorisk Museum. The accompanying note explains: "Piece of pleated town dress Tansberg, Vestfold, Storgaten, 1150-1250. Dresses with sharp pleats came into fashion in towns in the 12th century. They were popular for a hundred years! The pleats were sewn down the back of the fabric and acted as a flexible accordion. Accompanying text for the Register of Book Workers, overview of members for 1467: "Bruges and Paris dominate the production of Books of Hours in the 15t century. This register of the Guild of Book Producers and Merchants records the names of the craftspeople who made Books of Hours in Bruges. Noted beside their names (and sometimes their professions) is the membership fee they paid. Between 1455 and 1500, a quarter of the Guild members are women. Most work under the supervision of a man, either as apprentices or as family members. A few succeed in becoming independent entrepreneurs." Accompanying text for the Psalter, illuminated by the Dampierre Masters, Flanders, ca. 1250-1280: "Alongside Books of Hours, the devout also purchase Psalters. These are books containing all 150 Psalms, songs from the Old Testament. This Psalter was probably made for Countess Margaret HI of Flanders (1202-1280). She ruled Flanders and Hainaut for nearly forty years, but was in a constant battle to defend herself against family members and neighbouring rulers coveting her power and lands. Perhaps she found some comfort and courage in this Psalter."

Went to see the exhibition ‘Trots and Troost (Pride and Solace) - medieval books of hours and their readers’ at the Groeningemuseum in Bruges (thanks to @svanimpe.bsky.social for sharing the information!).

Appreciated the work done to highlight women in the documents and contextualisations.

D'accord sur l'écart entre le discours de Trump (et alliés) sur les questions de santé mentale (cf. la décision d'enfermer les SDF et personnes avec des problèmes de santé mentale), alors qu'ils seraient au-dessus de tout ça. Mais les citations grandiloquentes n'est pas l’apanage de Trump.

Balade jusqu’au prochain arrêt de bus parce que mon bus est en retard. Les cardères si chères aux personnes qui tricotent (elles étaient autrefois utilisées pour… carder la laine). Et des potites bêtes.

J’aime beaucoup « Birds of the World » (Austin et al., 1961) acheté tout cassé en seconde main. Les Kew Gardens ont publié de beaux livres traduits en français et peut-être aussi les livres des femmes qui ont dessiné les premiers herbiers, comme Maria Sibylla Merian ?
