Lostai soldiers would call me over and point to an older male child.
“Hey, you are Montor, right? Here is a treat if you can beat up that one over there.”
I ate everything they offered. My #goal was to grow taller and stronger so I could replace my sister in the mines.

The clear night sky catches my attention. Lostai’s nearest moon appears gigantic and imposing, casting shadows and an #argent shimmer on the icy surface.
Too bad it was the home world of people who had harmed me so much. Otherwise, I would have thought it beautiful.

I stop myself from saying that I hate the Lostai and that there is no way I would fight alongside them.
She is nice to me, but her job is to train me for exactly that purpose. I cannot trust her with these thoughts.

I have muddled memories of the trip from Earth to the Lostai science station.
Strapped to a bed. Peculiar medical equipment. Strange #unearthly beings. Sedative mists.
Horror—what you feel once it becomes clear. You truly are a hostage, and there’s no way back home.
