I love Queen Maud Style 😍
Day 1 of my Edwardian #AdventCalendar is this c. 1902 Laferriere evening gown of silk satin with a silk lace overlay. The gown, hand-embroidered with metallic thread, artificial diamonds and sequins, belonged to Queen Maud of Norway. Nasjonalmuseet collection. #fashionhistory

Nothing has changed - #Egyptian flip flops 😃: a pair of sandals made of woven reed and palm leaves. Dating around 1000 BC. It has been remarkably preserved because of Egypt's arid desert climate.

On display at National Museum Copenhagen.

We do not forget.

One for All Hallows' Day - not taken today, but still worth posting. My favourite photo I've taken of York Minster at first light - it seems to magically exude warmth and light - after the darkness recedes and night turns into day...

I am SO pleased to see this! Richard Taylor has quite rightly won his case. I was shocked at how the project and people, Richard T in particular, were so falsely portrayed in the film. Good to see it’s being put right. Do see Richard T’s X thread below. 👇

The striking form of Howden Minster, Yorkshire. Dating mostly from the 14th century, the building suffered the loss of its choir roof in the C17th. Its grandeur is a lasting reminder of the Minster’s historic ties to the powerful bishops of Durham.

I am guessing this mask was worn for the purpose of disguise at a #1740s party but really I want it to be the garb of a lady robber, scourge of the highways in a well cut jacket and a jaunty tricorn hat @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
