There has been some money spent on #PSIRF or whatever they are calling the new all-singing, all-dancing (all-proprietary, all-closed) #PatientSafety platform.

NHS England - this is your regular reminder that

Spending Some Money ≠ Evidence of Effectiveness.

I would add:

"Where are the clinicians?" Without clinical oversight THAT HAS TEETH then they are simply flash harry MBAs, playing at doctoring the nation.

"Where are the tech nerds?" Without proper in-house technical expertise, they are going to get bad value for any tech they buy. Why? Business!

It's been deleted. What was the original post?
November 26, 2025 at 12:36 AM
Yeah I wondered what might happen if they make it private or delete it, but then my reading of this is that the public forks remain public.

If this wasn't the case, it would spell HUGE problems for the open source world
November 24, 2025 at 6:33 PM
It even talks about #FutureNHS being open source - and there is (abandoned) #opensource FutureNHS code here

github.com/nhsengland/f...

Except that I don't think FutureNHS ever made the switch away from #Kahootz, which is definitely NOT open source, is over £10/user/month, and is TOTAL SHIT.

For anyone interested, the original page is still on Wayback and has a wealth of detail about NHS related open source successes.

Looks like the NHS Transformation Directorate Open Source Policy has also quietly been 'retired'.

When the rest of the tech world is so convinced of the utility of #opensource, how can the NHS be so utterly blind to it?

Good policies are useful to have around for future reference - so, just in case the NHSX Open Source policy does ever go 404 like the NHSE one, I've made a fork here:

I wonder how long the NHSX's Open Source policy will remain up? It's amazing to me how little NHSE remembers of the NHSX days, when there were a few actually knowledgeable technical leaders involved, and Open Source got some proper thought.

I get that it probably needed updating - it mentions Code4Health which was a Tim Kelsey-era bullshit 'initiative'.

But just update it and keep it up?

Too much of NHS D/E/I/X content simply disappears from the web. Too much of it is undated and unattributed, too. What happened to accountability?

Coincidentally I happened upon this excellent and insightful lament on the difficulty of digital preservation this week, heard through Cory Doctorow who's not on Bluesky but there is this:@pluralistic.net.web.brid.gy.
