How busy has it been getting during the day? Hoping to pop in there on Monday Afternoon/Evening

What I do during the day is set the Central Heating fairly low and then if the room I work in gets cold, and if you are sat at a computer all day you do start to feel chilly, I use the AC in heat mode to warm just that room which is cost effective. If you have AC :)

this is worth a read assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/69282a... for cars over 3 years old it seems pretty straight forward. Although it will need to account for where MOT date and VED Renewal are not the same date. But it does seem like they arent entirely sure how this will work for new cars.

This isn't really policy. It's an announcement before consultation. It may never happen anyway. www.gov.uk/government/c...
Consultation on the Introduction of Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED)
A consultation setting out further detail on how eVED will work.

Yes whilst in "utopia" its the ideal solution, I think it would prove unpalatable, once you start doing that, the concerns will be is this data going to be provided to insurers or will the next step be speeding tickets etc etc
November 27, 2025 at 2:52 PM
It's almost as if we've seen all of this before.
November 27, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Yes it's clearly a toe in the water, but I'm not sure we'll see it for non EV's given the supposed phase out of new combustion vehicles and the fact that fuel duty already does that job in a nice manageable way

it doesnt quite work like that with ev's though. At home it costs me 7p/kwh to charge overnight at 5% VAT, for someone charging on public infrastructure you are paying 20% VAT and typically at the moment unit rates mean it's often more expensive than petrol/diesel.

Very much a case of make the announcement and figure out the details later, the problem is they haven't really given themselves very long to implement

The problem is that automated tracking and payment etc becomes a tricky issue over privacy, tracking, big state etc. Will that open the door to other monitoring and tracking of driver behaviours etc.

Hybrid drivers and people who cannot charge at home are the ones getting a raw deal here with multiple overlapping layers of Taxation. Its all a bit ill thought out and rushed from this shambolic government.

I'm happy to pay per mile as I worked out the figures last week and even with the introduction of VED as well it's still cheaper than Petrol/Diesel, for me. Irony of VED now is EV = £195 VED, Petrol C1 £20
