Issue 9 was inspired by one of Manitoba’s halfway trees, marking the spot halfway between Winnipeg and Brandon. Local legend is it was planted by a widower for his deceased wife and child. The trees are over 100 years old and will soon need to be removed.

We’ve been looking for low-key features each province/territory and finding ways to make them more speculative. There’s the Ogopogo from Issue 5, the Newfoundland mummers from Issue 6, the canola fields of Saskatchewan in Issue 8.
