I had known more instances of this behavior than I would have preferred to have been made aware of and could not for the life of me imagine how someone could hit a woman, not only once but many, many times. - Bowie

This is about wife beating – something you are faced with in the American newspapers all the time. I think my voice sounds rather like it did five years ago. - Bowie

The very next day U2’s Bono called to provide the vocals and Angelo had to state: ‘Bono, man, it would be great… but last night I committed with Bowie.’

After a call from David Bowie offering to provide the vocal, Angelo responded: ‘Well, David, I know your style. I’ll tell you, you’re probably the only guy that makes sense. I can see you doing kind of a dark sound. You got it!’”

Angelo Badalamenti was tapped to produce a track for the album and he chose this song. He created the demo with his own vocals and was a little taken back when producers wanted ‘a great singer’ to do the vocal.

Bowie performed a mime performance of this song on German TV's 4-3-2-1 Musik Für Junge Leute in February 1968 but footage of that appears to be lost, at least at this time.

Thunder, lightning and Bowie shuffling around in a box of gravel. Add in some fake, if realistic sounding sneezes and you have the background music to the final track on Bowie’s debut album from 1967.

A cute little pop song that was taken by the band the Pretty Things and twisted into an up-tempo rocker. Then Bowie comes along and with the help of Ronson, Bolder, and Dunbar amps the song up just a touch more.

Also wanted to bring a clarification post: While it appears that things go from Omikron->Hours a lot of the music was already under work by Bowie/Gabrels for either a Bowie album or usage on Gabrels' solo album Ulysses.

I greatly enjoy this song, and if it wasn’t for the fact of being in an unfinished state at the time of release it would have fit the Next Day album perfectly. But when you look at the critical reviews of it, yeash!

Gerry Leonard and David Torn swirl madly around each other’s styles. Gail Ann Dorsey is poppin’ the bass and Zach Alford is on drums, slamming away. - Tony Visconti

This song came about in 1967, likely for inclusion on second album for the Deram label. The song was uploaded online for a hot minute in 2018 to keep the rights, and was also part of a breach of contract lawsuit in 1973.

Teen punks traveling on rusty roller skates living on the roofs of Hunter City is the tale this song, and its album. Bowie had been pondering a movie based on this idea. But then everything came to a screeching halt as he trashed all the stage props and shifted into a new direction, the Soul Tour.

Although this song has a separate listing on the album it is actually a part of suite of songs where it goes from Sweet Thing to Candidate to Sweet Thing (Reprise). When Bowie failed to get rights to do a musical version of 1984 he pivoted and tried to create his own dystopian landscape.

Yet the song was never performed live, although Bowie came close to using it on the third anniversary of Lennon’s tragic death on the final show of Bowie’s Serious Moonlight tour in December 1983.

Yet Bowie has stated numerous times he actually liked the song and thought his vocals were good, especially at the end. And Lennon had said many times he was unhappy with version by the Beatles.
