I think the questions of which technologies we encourage development of and through what mechanisms are downstream of what we want as broadly held values for society and how we want to enforce those values. Sorry for crossing the streams.

I wonder if the people on Bsky angered about subsidizing higher-risk policyholders for insurance have considered the alternative: highly individualized rate-setting that penalizes people that can't move or can't afford to move, can't afford risk mitigation measures, etc.
