A letter to the Iranian Diaspora
And all those who belive in principle of Collective Liberation

To Iranians in the diaspora, and to all those whose
kinship, family history, or political commitments
are connected to this land. And to those on the left
who ground their politics in principles of collective
liberation. We appeal to you to support the national
revolution unfolding in Iran.
This is not an abstract moment. Our people are being
shot at, arrested, disappeared, tortured, and kidnapped
in mass numbers across the country. State violence has
never been evently distributed, and as always, the
peripheral regions, those that function as internal
colonies for extraction, control and plunder are facing
the most brutal onslaught. These regions have long
borne the heaviest costs of counter revolutionary
crushing, militarization and dispossession.
All eyes must focus on those most vulnerable,
without collapsing into infighting, chauvinism, or
ethnic nationalism. The Islamic Republic will not be
overthrown by fragmentation. It can only be defeated
by a united public struggle across every region of
the country, rooted in solidarity across difference
and clarity about the real enemy.

Iran is not a monolith. It is a heterogeneous, deeply
stratified society shaped by sharp ethnic, cultural,
linguistic, gendered, and class divisions. It should
be strongly noted that the ruling regime's praxis is
infact built on a foundation of 50+ years of toxic
Pahlavi-led nationalism.
This nationalism was not merely rhetorical but materially
enforced through authoritarian state-building, privileging
a Persianized, urban elite while marginalizing workers,
easants, and peripheral regions. The monarchy pursued
aggressive centralization and cultural homogenization,
paticularly brutalizing Kurdistan, Khuzestan, Baluchistan,
and Azerbaijan through military repression, economic
underdevelopment, bans on local languages, and the
criminalization of autonomous political expression.
Class domination and ethnic domination were mutually
reinforcing, while uneven development, dispossession
of land and coercive assimilation were key instruments
through which the Pahlavi state consolidated power and
disciplined dissent.

The current Islamic Republic has sustained itself
through a combination of ideological control, religious
fanaticism, patriarchal violence, and the systematic
suppression of labor, minorities, and political dissent.
This repression has been reinforced (not weakened)
by western sanctions, international isolation, and
imperial containment.
All of the above have disproportionately immiserate the
working classes, hollow out social reproduction, and
deepen regional inequalities, while simultaneously
strengthening the state's coercive apparatus and rent-
seeking elites. In this sense, external pressure has not
dismantled authoritarianism but has instead reconfigured
and entrenched it.
While the current Islamic regime superficially rejected
the monarchy's secular nationalism, it reproduces many
of its core logics in practice: centralized rule, militarized
governance, and the violent management of Iran's non-
Persian peripheries. Like its predecessor the Ayatollah
regime treats most non-Persian regions as internal frontiers,
to be disciplined through securitization, economic neglect,
and recurring military force, while superficially claiming a
revolutionary history and an anti-imperialist legitimacy.

$Decades of Sanctions, immigration blockades and international isolation have also torn at the social fabric in countless ways. These conditions have not only immiserated people inside the country; they have also shaped who is able to leave. Those who make it to the West are often already filtered by class, ethnicity, gender, and access to mobility. The diaspora, therefore, is not a microcosm of Iranian society but carries its own ideological distortions, and political dislocations. Estimates suggest between 4 and 6 million Iranians reside outside the country, making Iran one of the largest exile populations relative to its population sizec comparable to, and in some cases exceeding other Asian diasporas formed by prolonged war or occupation, such as those of Palestinians, Syrians, or Afghans. Unlike classic migrant communities sustained by cyclical movement, remittances, and return, most Iranians are unable to travel back due to sanctions, visa regimes, political risk, or legal precarity. Ties to Iran are fractured and mediated through digital abstractions rather than lived social relations.$
