Lighthearted takes on UX, creativity, and other goofy things—by a technology wunderkind who grew up to be a product designer, and former agency developer.

Was really into Poppins before it went mainstream.

Currently in Seattle.
Right. Engineering that context has become the UXE’s job. I have mixed feelings about this. It makes sense that this would be a new wave of design systems. But it doesn’t feel like an evergreen problem fit for FTE roles.

But I feel like the trend I see is that because of AI, the market will soon expect bits and pieces of PM skills to be absorbed by engineers.

Which. Heeeeyyyyy that’s kinda what I do already. I just have to prove it. How hard could that be in this market?

I kind of feel like UX tried to make itself the tip of the spear for Product Management as a skill set in the software world. But it sort of backfired when the market decided Product Management should be an FTE role rather than a skill that slots under a role.

Heck, with my own recollection of the timeline, I would be surprised if UX was unknowingly trying to reanimate the corpse of agile during the early smartphone era and patting itself on the back for being so innovative.

After working with Claude Code and with GitHub Copilot + Sonnet a lot over the summer, I am pretty fatigued by the phrase “You are absolutely right!”

This totally tracks for me. I even recently experimented with building a small library of React components that ship with AI instructions and conversational triggers in the NPM bundle, and this actually helps me define how consumers’ AI tools utilize the components!
