I think the corollary that a lot of people miss about "write what you know" is that *you have the power to know more things.* Research and talking to people are a central part of writing!

NYC doesn’t hit the same as it used to when I was a kid.
The most fascinating parts about it are the public transportation and the people.
That almost instantly gets wiped out by the 24/7 reminders of consumerism and capitalism once you hit Times Square and 5th Ave.
