Thank you Scott!
Many years ago, I was a NSF graduate fellow. When I started my NSF funded research, hardly anyone was interested in the process we were studying. Now there are hundreds of papers on this process, and it usefulness in agriculture. Thank you NSF for believing in vegetative phase change!

My interest in math and science was stimulated by an NSF-funded high school summer program, my PhD dissertation research was supported by an NSF fellowship, and some of my most creative research early in my independent career was supported by an NSF award.

This is an excellent video that explains NIH funding and indirect costs. Super important to understand this. It is critical funding:

They can ignore today's protests but they don't know if the next one will be the tipping point so this forces them to recalibrate.

This is a fight of inches and every inch matters.

It is hard to predict when the disinterested will become interested and suddenly we have a new political frame. Both people in power and experienced opposition know this.

So, every little bit of resistance, demonstration, creates a little bit of friction and hesitation in what they might do.

You may be asking, yes it felt good but does it matter?

Yes, it does--maybe not in the way you think. Here is my thoughts from college years during Korean military dictatorship.
