Dorley wants Will to feel bad about his violence, even if it's not immoral violence, and to sympathize with and eventually *love* his captors.

the whole arc about will feeling guilty fo hurting Maria in an escape attempt always felt bizarre to me, but in a way it fits with what Dorley is trying to *do*.

I was thinking this while reading Warhound that there's actually something that makes me mildly uncomfortable about the depiction of transness when there are no visibly male characters. As though the setting's genders become "cis woman" and trans woman".
