I have a lot of favorite things about Mt Pleasant, but the Bancroft tree sale is absolutely one of them.
(Let’s place bets on whether Zephyr tries to knock the tree down after I go to bed tonight)

@capitalweather.bsky.social fat snowflakes coming down steadily in Mount Pleasant - sticking to grass/leaves/cars but not sidewalks or pavement

My mother asked me to send her some things I’d like for Christmas and so far my list is two kinds of socks, a humidifier, and some fancy bubble bath. Guess we’re going for comfort and practicality in 2026.

LFG!
The DC I know is worth fighting for.

I’m Janeese Lewis George, and I’m running for Mayor.

Saturday (or Caturday, if you please) is for napping in the sunshine and watching Christmas movies.

Sorry to be a boomer but I think texts from brands on Thanksgiving should be illegal.

Hey, @npr.org as the caption on the thumbnail says, Bowser is a three-term mayor who is not seeking a fourth term.

Also, I would like someone who knows firsthand that the rent is too damn high to be our next Mayor. Bonus points if they are charismatic as hell.

If I’ve learned anything in the last 30 minutes it’s that in every friend group I’m a part of, I’m the person you text when the mayor announces she’s not seeking reelection.

It’s my favorite week in This Town. There are like 6 of us on a 16th Street bus at 8 am, there is zero traffic.

Found a young woman who has aged out of foster care and loves to bake and bought her a stand mixer, this is absolutely the only kind of shopping I want to do this year.

I have been looking at Black Friday sales for a week but I do not actually need anything so instead I closed all those tabs and bought a Polaroid for a foster kid in Florida who uses photography to deal with big feelings. Perhaps you would like to do the same for one of the kids at the link below?
🧵 We are, in fact, doing the thing again for @onesimplewish.bsky.social. In 2024, the kind people of this community put the money cannon on blast to help grant $75K in wishes for children in foster care. Toys, tech, a suit for job interviews. Here we go again! 👇

The city has been twiddling its thumbs on what to do with the streateries for years now. Instead of these poorly implemented half measures they could’ve used that time to come up with a real plan to permanently extend sidewalks, create managed loading/drop off zones, and convert to sidewalk cafes.

Um, what?
November 15, 2025 at 6:28 PM
The thing about being a take-charge person is that sometimes I don’t *want* to be in charge, but no one else seems to be doing anything?

It’s honestly a miracle that I’ve made it to 42 without running for office (the ultimate “if no one else is gonna handle this I guess I will” move)

There is nothing worse, as a people pleaser and person who generally tries to be helpful, than listening to movers grumble about the stairs and heaviness of your boxes while moving.

Happy for New York and wishing for the same for DC in our next mayoral election. But tbh, this morning I’d be willing to vote for whoever will fix the No Parking permit sign process.

Lin deserves a chance to do a mash-up that includes “immigrants, we get the job done” and “the greatest city in the world” he’s earned it.
in my heart I know that Lin-Manuel Miranda wants to play Zohran Mamdani on SNL so bad it physically hurts him

I never need an excuse to share the best piece of writing about baseball to exist, but last night’s game is a good one
“This is what baseball can do to the soul: it has the ability to make you believe in spite of all other available evidence.”
