Fun fact: you can do collisions straight up from the start. Play NEO TWEWY

You know how it is.

I dunno about y’all but I was having a blast even from the beginning when I started experimenting with different pins seeing what makes each one tick. There’s a lot of cool stuff you can do even right from the start.

BACK SHOT

My hatred for the Vergil clip was documented way before your tweet about it, bro.

Ah this person is just annoying then, okay then.

TWEWY in general shows a great understanding of what makes someone and their relationships tick and how their different experiences can make for distinct ways in how they process life while also showing that it’s okay to feel vulnerable and that your trauma is valid, no matter what form it takes.

And thus, his development has him learning to accept that it’s okay to let himself be vulnerable again/genuine to his true self. His friendship with Rindo even reflects this, with the two of them actually forming a genuine bond beyond their initial surface-level relationship.

it becomes clear that not all is sunshine and rainbows with Fret and it isn’t after he becomes devoted to trying to save Kanon and her erasure that we found out why: he lost his best friend to suicide. (Love how Beat lets him try because he knows if Fret doesn’t, it will tear at him forever)
October 22, 2024 at 6:04 AM
Add this with one of the main quests on W2D2 where Fret’s expressions changes in a split-second when they help the Variabeauty’s lady friend cope with having a dead best friend, and then trying to hastily change the subject, Nagi and Kanon’s various interactions with him, etc, and-
October 22, 2024 at 6:02 AM
Then there’s the sidequest where he and Nagi help out Eiru, where Fret goes "he should just learn to ignore all of his problems and let them roll off of him with no worries, worked great for me!" and Nagi goes "no, what the fuck is wrong with you?"

By contrast, Fret’s trauma throughout NEO manifests itself in different ways. He has a habit of putting up a goofy and lighthearted front but whenever shit starts to REALLY hit the fan, the mask slips a little and he starts showing a pretty pessimistic/cynical outlook.

Throughout the game, Neku shows a very pervasive habit of blaming himself whenever things go wrong, even if, realistically, there was nothing he could’ve done about it. So when Sota and Nao actually tell him that "no, it’s not your fault", he’s honestly stunned.
October 22, 2024 at 5:57 AM
Feelings that tell him that whatever happened towards Rhyme could’ve somehow been avoided entirely if she and Beat didn’t team up with him and Shiki. This isn’t just Neku lashing out because he’s hurt, this is something he actually, legitimately believes.
October 22, 2024 at 5:56 AM
This was actually foreshadowed way beforehand on W1D4, with Rhyme’s Erasure bringing up unpleasant but familiar feelings within Neku that he’s unable to specifically label due to his lost memories at the time.
October 22, 2024 at 5:55 AM
It isn’t until Another Day in Pork City that we finally find out why: he had a best friend that he genuinely connected with and come to appreciate before he tragically lost his life in an accident while on his way to meet up with Neku in their favorite spot.

I was watching this one excellent One Piece a while back by MelonTeee (seriously, give it and her channel a look, some excellent character stories) and it actually gave me some inspiration for why I wanted to make this thread.

Since I’m now on BlueSky, I figure why not repost my thread exploring Neku and Fret’s similar traumas and how they cope with it in very different ways that play towards their core values? Here’s slice of my TWEWY analyses. Hope you enjoy.
