I’m a postgrad studying Anthropology of Food and having spend an inordinate amount of time reading about food systems and supply chains, I endorse this idea 100000%. The feeding of Coruscant is massively fascinating to think about and could fuel many rich plots.

Turkey. We haven’t done turkey for the last three years because it’s a dry-ass bird that nobody in my house loves. We actually don’t do most of these traditionals anymore, we create a feast of our favorite foods. Honestly it feels so liberating to realize Thanksgiving can be whatever you want.

It can be helpful to have a road map, for sure, though. Like “chapter 1 & 2, I need to introduce these characters and concepts, maybe these scenes would work here…” but then obvs be flexible. It can be tricky to find a method that works for you. I switch it up all the time bc I am inconsistent 💀

For fics I just pants & post, but for originals I go back and prune/shape and bring important beats out from the natural flow. But if your brainstorming doc is too messy, it’s okay to try to wrestle it into a coherent outline! As long as that doesn’t stifle the excitement of discovery thru writing.

Yess the curse of chaos writing. It’s hard! Remember that you can always trim/rearrange/edit to make those beats come out at the right time, but you can’t edit what hasn’t been written! I just try to write toward the beats I’m excited about and see what happens.

But that hasn’t always worked out because as I write the story tends to bend and twist it’s own way, so now I just write with the split screen, with my manuscript on top and my brainstorm doc/outline or reference sheet on the bottom. All within Scriv.
