Interested in a liveable global climate, sustainable ecosystems & healthy democracies; & wanting integrity in politics, the media & politicians.
I think Rear Admiral Mathias may agree w/ you:

"called on Aukus to be “cancelled now” indicating a preference for using technology to find “cost-effective” means of achieving the same levels of capability, by utilising things such as drones & smaller, unmanned submarines."

The former head of nuclear policy at the UK MoD, Rear Admiral Philip Mathias, calls out the “catastrophic” state of British nuclear submarine procurement & sustainment and calls for #AUKUS to be “cancelled now”. What’s your response Richard Marles? #auspol
UK 'incapable' of maintaining nuclear submarines as expert issues brutal verdict
Rear Admiral Philip Mathias has criticised the state of the Royal Navy's naval submarine programme, labelling it as "not fit for purpose."

- "Dreadnought class, should be the “last class of nuclear-powered submarines that the UK builds”

- "Aukus to be “cancelled now”

- Preference for using tech to find “cost-effective” means of achieving the same levels of capability by utilising things such as drones & smaller, unmanned submarines."

Yeah, I want to know what u think too @albomp.bsky.social

Rear Admiral Mathias:
- "Britain is no longer capable of running a capable nuclear submarine programme

- Performance...continues to get worse in every dimension

- Inability to produce attack submarines at the scale required"

I'm taking this srsly. We'd be fools to ignore the⬆️ f-r trend esp in light of Trump 2.0 & Trump-loving wealthy backers such as Rinehart active in politics in the b/ground.

So too do I take it as a threat re neo-Nazis intending to stand in the next election, unlike Bourke...

There's always Advance and/or other shadowy rich backers who might have an interest and take the opportunity. I'm not taking this threat so lightly as Bourke.

"They will fail in spectacular fashion" says Bourke wrt neo-Nazis standing in the next election.

Well, I'm nowhere near as confident. For example, how come someone like Ralph Babet got elected as a senator?

"2024 study by Alabrese et al finds that the vast majority of UK regions experienced significant output losses as a result of Brexit, estimated at 5–10 percentage points of GDP relative to synthetic counterfactuals."

"Economists & analysts at Cambridge Econometrics found that, by 2035, the UK is anticipated to have 3 million fewer jobs, 32% lower investment, 5% lower exports & 16% lower imports, than it would have had been. ...the UK will be £311bn worse off by 2035 due to leaving the EU.[57]

Unfortunately, tragically, I think this is a much broader & bigger threat to public health, disease control & prevention. Many innocent people (& parents) regardless of any political leanings will continue to trust the system & govt's public health advice.

These are perilous times for all.

His impact is typified by his championing of Saudi Arabia. Internationally isolated after the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, its FIFA facilitated football takeover has helped it rebuild soft power and re-normalise its 'brand' 💪

It has put this leverage to use in blocking international climate action ❌
