Apparently Carney’s plan to build a strong Canada that can stand up to a US that treats immigrants and refugees so terribly involves making the lives of Canadian refugees that much more miserable.

Grassy Narrows has been a sacrifice zone for industrial development for generations. Their fight against mining, nuclear waste storage and the Dryden Mill continues, as these projects continue to poison their river.

For more than two decades now, the Grassy Narrows First Nation has been fighting against industrial logging.

In 2007, they declared an official moratorium on all industrial activity – and in 2018, they banned all mineral staking, exploration, mining, and logging.

In Dryden, 20,000 pounds of mercury were dumped into the English-Wabigoon River system in the 1960s, causing symptoms of mercury poisoning in more than 90% of the Grassy Narrows population.

Even today, effluent continues to be discharged – increasing the formation of the most toxic form of mercury.

This is a big deal even if it isn't surprising (it should be! but this is modern right-wing politics, apparently!)

Federal Conservatives trade journalists for partisan cheerleaders
When Conservatives gather in Calgary at their convention next weekend, right-wing “content creators” will be welcomed as journalists. This publication, not so much.
