These awful people need to stop talking about this in terms of American domestic politics as if it’s just “normal discourse.” It’s just despicable. A more apt historical analogy is the Anschluss, the disastrous pre-war Nazi erasure of a sovereign nation in the name of empire. Do better, NYT.
