One of the more disruptive outcomes of genAI flooding the zone is the mass conflation of facility with expertise and wisdom, and the elevation of voices (including many hucksters) who have been quick to seize that opportunity.
I think this is an advantage auto-didacts have, in that they are forced to develop these steps early and often. But it's a double-edged sword, because it can also devolve into "doing my own research."
I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

I so appreciate this attention to what we’ve been doing with ed tech at CUNY and the notion that the higher ed ecosystem can benefit from it. Too many folks to name have been involved in those projects over the years, and it builds upon work and commitments at CUNY that goes back generations.
Huge thanks to @mattseybold.bsky.social for writing this great post, which highlights CUNY's transformative potential to build open educational infrastructure

Deeply appreciate this work, tho in an environment where shared governance is all but non existent it will require faculty orgs and unions to become informed and then to forcefully assert/demand access to procurement/contracting/review. Will not be easy.
Very proud to have worked on this statement of the Modern Language Association with @annamillsoer.bsky.social and other colleagues on the MLA’s task force on AI in Research and Teaching. It is a direct call for faculty input into Ed Tech decision-making, especially AI: www.mla.org/Resources/Ad... 🧵

Fela Kuti: Fear No Man is a remarkable piece of research and story telling. This episode, on the foundations of Fela’s politics, includes Wole Soyinka… whose visa was just revoked.

Oof. This one hurts. Singularly talented, deeply representative of my generation, soundtrack to so much joy and exploration in my own life.

I learned yesterday that most people don’t know that CUNY is migrating to Workday for financial and HR operations, so sharing it here. Full university cutover: 1/1/2027. RF is going live in Workday on its own on 1/1/2026.

Good luck to us all.
