don't be fooled by its short and easygoing nature, this game definitely has some teeth and is harder than like, a good number of other lunatic 1ccs. definitely one of the most fun and well done mechanics in the series though, highly recommend

played a mushihimesama arrange credit on a whim, and I actually played really well all the way up until the TLB! unfortunately, even though I reached aki with 3/0 I can't beat him so I didn't end up getting the 1cc. like your honor I am not dodging that

long story short is that ikaruga was a huge hit when it released, to the point that all game journalists compared all future shmup releases to ikaruga. this is very bad when they otherwise have no understanding of how the genre has evolved already, which can be seen in ikaruga reviews of the time.

it doesn't hinder the overall story, but the dialogue is definitely a bit rough and unnatural for today's standards. there's also old translations of various terms (e.g "lunar veil"), and lower quality scans compared to modern ones
