Big win for California: the CSU just saw its biggest enrollment jump in a decade — enrolling over 471,000 students this fall.

That means more first-generation students, more transfer students & more Californians making their dreams come true.

Proud of our CSU community!

On this day of remembrance, California honors the 2,403 lives lost in the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor. We pay tribute to all our fallen heroes, as their stories will continue to shape our nation’s resilience. Their sacrifice to serve will never be forgotten.

Honored to join the San Francisco Interfaith Council for their 25th Annual Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast. Grateful for their powerful leadership, and for a California that stands firmly for dignity, sanctuary, and belonging for all.

Wishing everyone a warm and meaningful holiday season.

Honored to join the incredible team at @glidesf.bsky.social to serve breakfast to our neighbors in the Tenderloin.

At a time when many families are facing food insecurity, GLIDE continues to lead with dignity, love & compassion. Grateful to every volunteer who showed up to lift up our community.

I opposed yesterday’s UC tuition increase because students shouldn’t be the solution to structural deficits.

Californians are struggling to afford basic necessities. Raising tuition only pushes the dream to pursue higher education further out of reach.

The work is by no means done, but this Systemwide Policy represents an important step to fulfilling the CSU’s responsibility towards the Tribal Communities in the state.

It’s National Take a Hike Day, California!

Earlier this year, I hiked through Calaveras Big Trees State Park, a reminder of how lucky we are to call this beautiful state home. Get outside today and soak in that fresh California air.

The return of SNAP benefits is a lifeline for millions of families. But the Republican Big Betrayal Bill guts that progress, slashing funding and imposing harsh work requirements that could rip food off the tables of those who need it most.

Working families deserve support, not these cruel cuts.

This is a win for UCLA and all the students, faculty, and staff who power one of the world’s best public universities.

Cruel actions like this from Trump threaten people all across California and the United states who benefit from the breakthroughs and discoveries that happen at the UC.

November is Native American Heritage Month.

This month, we celebrate the rich heritage & enduring resilience of Native communities across CA & beyond. The Golden State is proudly home to over 100+ Tribal nations, & their stories, wisdom, & leadership will continue to shape our collective future.

This Transgender Awareness Week, we honor the courage, resilience, & contributions of our transgender & gender non-conforming neighbors.

Everyone deserves to live safely & freely as their true selves. Let’s keep working toward a future where equality is not only promised, but it’s lived every day.

For decades, Oxnard residents raised concerns about the Ormond Beach Power Plant & its impact on local air quality.

After 7 months of negotiations, we reached an agreement with the plant’s operator, GenOn, to invest $1.5M in air quality monitoring & public outreach as part of their lease extension.

This Veterans Day, we pay tribute to the brave service members who have stood in defense of our country and to the families who stand beside them.

Your sacrifice strengthens our communities, and we are forever grateful.

California & the White House do not share the same values, especially when it comes to feeding our kids.

This SNAP/CalFresh disruption wasn’t unavoidable. The administration has the funds to prevent it.

This is an intentionally manufactured hunger crisis, & American families are paying the price.

No child’s education should be held hostage by a federal shutdown.

Hundreds of California families are scrambling as Head Start centers face closure, threatening 1,000 low-income children and 270 teachers. California will keep fighting so families and kids aren’t left behind.
November 3, 2025 at 9:23 PM
Millions of Americans rely on SNAP to put food on the table. Trump’s shutdown tried to take it away. The so-called partial funding he agreed to will cover only half of normal benefits, leaving families hungry & struggling.

Food security isn’t a bargaining chip. CA will always stand up for families.

Feliz Día de los Muertos!

For the next two days, we celebrate the lives and legacies of our loved ones who have passed on through cultural traditions that keep their memories alive.

May this weekend bring much reflection, joy and connection for everyone.

With SNAP benefits set to lapse tomorrow, our city is stepping up where Washington has failed—delivering life-saving food assistance for working Californians abandoned by a federal government that’s turned a blind eye during this shutdown.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I joined Sen. Susan Rubio — a fearless advocate for survivors — to shine a light on an issue that affects far too many families across CA.

Nearly 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the U.S. experience domestic violence.

Nearly 1 in 3 Californians is an immigrant, and together, they power the world’s 4th-largest economy. From agriculture and innovation to small businesses and culture, immigrants keep CA moving forward.

On #NationalImmigrantsDay, we honor the people who make our state stronger every single day.

We’re celebrating our amazing transfer students & @senatorcabaldon.bsky.social’s bill, SB 640, which will make CSU admissions easier & less stressful.

Today, we honor the Festival of Lights, a celebration of hope, renewal & the triumph of light over darkness.

As families gather across California & the world, we celebrate the vibrant Indian & South Asian communities that enrich our state. Wishing everyone peace, prosperity, & light this Diwali.

CA’s nurses & health care workers are the backbone of our care system.

I’m proud to stand with #UNACUHCP members this morning on the picket line in Oakland because when they fight for fair pay, safe staffing, & respect on the job — they’re fighting for all of us.
