Those muscle cars are absurdly heavy

All the math says my husband's carpentry vehicle needs to be a minivan, and since he doesn't have fragile self-confidence, that's what he drives.

This is such a lovely, short and beautiful introduction to alliterative poetry and I've been enchanted by this poem since I first read it many years ago.

6/ He first shaped for men's sons
Heaven as a roof, the holy Creator;
then middle-earth mankind's guardian,
eternal Lord, afterwards prepared
the earth for men, the Lord almighty."

5/ The translation runs something like this (I've borrowed the Liuzza translation):
"Now let us praise Heaven-Kingdom's guardian,
the Maker's might and his mind's thoughts,
the work of the glory-father—of every wonder,
eternal Lord. He established a beginning.

3/ My attempt at a fairly normalized version of the text is as follows:
Nū sculan heriġan heofonrīces Weard,
meotodes meahte ond his mōdġeðanc,
Weorc Wuldorfæder, swa hē wundra ġehwaes,
ēċe drihten ōr onstealde

2/ Cædmon was a very unmusical cow-herder who would sneak from the pub when music began, but in a vision an angel gave him a song to sing. He went to Hild, the abbess of Whitby, and shared his story and first song with her. Cædmon went on to write several more songs glorifying God, becoming a monk.
