Hi Coloradans!

Reminder, in Colorado, the election primary looks like this:

Caucus -- > Primary --> General Election

This means that in order to get progressive Democrats on the primary ballot, we need to attend caucus to get them on.

death by preventable disease is an inevitable and even desired outcome of concentration camps. in every era of concentration camps people have died of typhus, which is a disease of privation and enforced crowding. this illness is intentionally inflicted

Me to kid: Am I a broken record?

Kid: I don't know what that means.

And then I died of old age.

Sugar cookies
Guys, I really need to talk about something dumb and meaningless. What's a universally beloved sweet treat that you think is just mid? For me, it's meringue.

This is a huge upset in a very Republican district.

The grocery store just called to ask if I really want *that much* marinara. I have felt so called out since the covid grocery pop up guy asked me if I really wanted the giant-sized peanut butter.

I don't believe in destiny. I don't believe hard work is rewarded. We don't live in a meritocracy. But I believe in inevitability as the result of a series of variables of which one has no control. Being pulled over by ICE is example of chilling inevitability.
What It Feels Like Getting Stopped by ICE
My work for Texas Monthly demands hundreds of hours on the road each year. Being pulled over by immigration enforcement officers has felt like an inevitability for months.

In my ongoing attempts to give you a break from *gestures widely* THE HORRORS:

Let's talk about the utterly bizarre science of cats' purring.

Here's a weird starting point:
There are NO cats (Felidae) that can BOTH roar AND purr.

Cats that roar = genus Panthera
Cats that purr = genus Felis

You do not need to traumatize yourself to be a better person, a better activist, to better oppose the people and forces engaged in this murderous evil. You just need to know it's happening and take action.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct.

As the planet warms, storms like the one today are getting stronger… and as the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the mid latitudes, it increases the risk of the “freezer door” swinging open.

Too often, insurance companies offer only “ghost networks” for mental health: lists of therapists who don’t actually accept your plan.

Too rarely do they face real accountability, as @propublica.org‘s reporting makes clear.

Be prepared, but this *won't* be like 2021. The weather will warm up fairly quickly, so you won't get trapped in your house for a week without power or water.
Folks in Texas (and other typically warm weather places) are you doing anything to prepare for the snow storm?

Especially the possibility of long term power outages?

I am worried about you and want you to be safe and prepared.
