New York State Assemblymember (D/WF, Upper West Side/parts of Hell's Kitchen). Chair of Assembly Committee on Housing.
Pets must not be treated like property.

Proud that my new law with @sengianaris.bsky.social bans predatory lease agreements in online sales. These contracts have allowed pets to be cruelly repossessed from loving families simply over missed payments

Thank you Halle Berry for highlighting my package of menopause bills that I’m working to pass in #NYS. 💪

We MUST protect women experiencing menopause from discrimination and make menopausal-related health treatments more affordable.

Fired up and ready to make history.

I felt the dread of generations in my bones during a surprise visit to 26 Federal Plaza with @bradhoylmansigal.bsky.social + @micahlasher.bsky.social this morning.

Trump is carrying out pure evil. And while the arc of the moral universe is long, we must forcefully bend it toward justice.

‼️Proud to stand with @nynurses.bsky.social as they demand a #FairContractNow.

Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system, but reductions to frontline staff combined with upcoming federal cuts will harm workers and patients alike.

#NursesCareforNY and we must care for them.

Congratulations to our next mayor: @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social 🎉

These results are an electrifying endorsement for a more affordable #NYC and a repudiation of Trump’s cruelty.

Now let’s go build housing, help tenants, save vouchers + fight back against Trump like our lives depend on it.
Breaking News: Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker from Queens, will be the 111th mayor of New York. He will be the first Muslim to ever lead the city, as well as its first South Asian mayor and the youngest mayor in more than a century.

Michael McKee was the juggernaut of the housing movement and his legacy will forever live on in the legions of activists he’s inspired.

His encyclopedic knowledge was legendary. His belief in justice defined him.

Proud to have been his friend. I’ll miss him dearly.

While Trump is telling you to buy fewer dolls for your kids this holiday season, he’s buying deportation Barbie two new private jets during a government shutdown.

There is a well-documented link between animal cruelty & violence against humans.

Proud that my new law with Senator Hinchey will protect pets & people alike by requiring courts to consider animal cruelty crimes when issuing an ERPO to temporarily restrict access to firearms.

Algorithms designed to artificially drive up rents have created new opportunities for collusion & price fixing.

Proud that my new law will end this anti-competitive practice and help to level the playing field for tenants across the state.

Happy #GlobalCatDay and a big congrats to the Paw Project & @votealexlee.bsky.social for officially banning declawing in California!🐱

Proud to have sponsored New York’s first-in-the-nation law in 2019 banning the practice & thrilled to see the movement going nationwide. 6 states down, 44 to go!

‼️Message to Airbnb: NYC Council Intro 1107 may help your bottom line, but it will endanger access to rental housing for thousands.

Airbnb’s co-founder jumped at the chance to join #DOGE, so I wouldn’t count on them to now stand up for hardworking New Yorkers.

Honoring the life of the legendary king of lox, coffee, cheese, Saul Zabar, as well as his exacting standards of excellence for Zabars.

Saul will now forever grace the #WestSide’s 79th Street 1 subway station thanks to the @mta.info.

May his memory be a blessing.

Tish James has more integrity in her pinky finger than Donald Trump will ever have.

He’s the ultimate grifter; she’s a model of public service.

#NYS has our AG’s back, always.
This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

‼️Donald Trump is waging war on American cities, spending billions to tear apart families, terrorize neighborhoods & further our descent into tyranny.

The people have the power. This moment requires us to forcefully speak out and tell Trump to keep #HandsOffNYC.

Trump and NY’s seven MAGA Congressional members are robbing four million of their healthcare during an affordability crisis.

This government shutdown is about right vs. wrong, humanity vs. vengeance.

With labor, we’re fighting for you every step of the way because healthcare IS a human right.

Undergoing chemotherapy doesn’t mean you have to lose your hair or identity.

The #NYSPSC’s bullshit reasoning for green lighting the #NESE pipeline is built on nothing more than a fantasy.

Governor Hochul must show Donald Trump who’s in charge by canceling his pet pipeline project.

#September11 is forever seared into the heart and soul of every American. But as we mark the 24th anniversary, it’s up to us to keep the heroism and bravery of that day alive for the next generation.

May we #NeverForget the stories of the more than 3,000 people who died on that day.

"But, write sponsors @lizkrueger.bsky.social + @lindabrosenthal.bsky.social, there's legislation awaiting Gov. Hochul's signature that would help us fight back."

The Gov. must sign.

I wrote to Governor Hochul earlier this week urging the NYS Department of Health to issue a non-patient specific standing order for the #COVID19 vaccine.

I’m glad that the Governor heeded the call, but we can’t stop there — #NYS must also direct insurance companies to cover the cost of vaccines.
