for context here are the songs i already know:

- the first verse of drunk drivers/killer whales before the weird scary power chords in the chorus

maybe I just am not very gendery personally but the idea that someone needs to have their gender affirmed to be able to be a decent human being is bizarre to me. it's like putting a dog's pill in a spoonful of peanut butter but the peanut butter in this case is, like, cosplaying as Don Draper

I will also note that every person I know irl who has read it is a woman, and I know a surprising number of ppl who have read it. It is a book men lie about reading, yes, but apparently it is a book women actually read!!

I read it when I was 17 and it kind of exploded what literature could be for me! My wife and I bonded over both loving it! Yes it is a fucked up novel (it is racist and misogynist and DFW had some Damage about trans women) but also regrettably it is one of the great books and you should read it

as i think many women my age do, i have profoundly mixed feelings about late obama era pop feminism. but i think one thing we forget too quickly was that it was very, very weird
