it definitely taught me as a teen that jazz and esp vocal jazz is not always elevator music. I listen to/play a lot of jazz and samba on guitar now and i don't imagine that would be my thing otherwise. the ones with lyrics were often simple or funny but never thoughtless, too, really great artist
