New extortion scam email going round (this was received via a writer's website contact form). I've seen a number of these recently but without the money demand; the translation angle is also a new one

I’ve sometimes fallen into the trap of thinking that complementing a creative person for their work is less sophisticated or desired than discussion or debate about it but very often the best thing you can say to them is hell yeah and that doesn’t make you dumb it just makes you nice

Lot of people will absolutely refuse to truck with negative eugenics because admitting you want to hurt people is a faux pas, but they absolutely support the evil of the converse principle, that you should "encourage good genes", without engaging with the fact that this is the same evil up and down

1. Historically, eugenics was not a pseudoscience. It was *science* Almost every scientist, social scientist, academic, etc. believed in the validity of eugenics. You would have to search far & wide to find a scientist that didn't believe in some form of it. They taught it in college!

Great thread and highly rec this Kevles book she cites too, it's a great history of science of eugenics (that was actually the class I had it in, 200s or 300s history of science -- I've recced it more than once since)
