Ali Gul Hadari–an elite commando unit soldier–was one of them. He worked closely with US Special Forces during the war, but was left behind when the US pulled out.

We interviewed 6 serving & former French officials who had been posted to Mayotte.

We found disparities beyond income, too. Even when accounting for other factors, women receive shorter sentences than men. Older judges hand out longer sentences than younger judges—and punish migrant defendants especially harshly.

We found disparities beyond income, too. Even when accounting for other factors, women receive shorter sentences than men. Older judges hand out longer sentences than younger judges—and punish migrant defendants especially harshly.
Our findings in particular point to stark class injustice within Norwegian courts. Jakob and Frank are part of a larger pattern where those who earn the least are punished more harshly than those who earn the most.

In 2022, two men were convicted for driving under the influence. Frank in a cheap, old car, unemployed with debt. Jakob in a new, expensive Audi, worth millions. Their cases were nearly identical, but their sentences could not have been further apart.
