This summer, the Taliban reiterated its promise of amnesty and the US ended Temporary Protected Status for Afghans. Advocates warn the Taliban’s security assurances are being used to justify the stripping away of Afghan pathways to safety.
We documented dozens more cases of brutal deaths and torture. Still these numbers are likely an undercount–many cases were not included due to verification standards, safety concerns, and a rising climate of fear.

The Taliban claim the killings are isolated cases of personal revenge. Yet, interviews with torture victims raise concerns of a more systematic effort to hunt allies of international forces.
His elder daughter “remembers her father every day.”

“The moments when she asks why the Taliban shot her father are the most painful,” his widow told us. “To this day I don't have an answer to this and other countless questions she has.”
Ali Gul Hadari–an elite commando unit soldier–was one of them. He worked closely with US Special Forces during the war, but was left behind when the US pulled out.

Last year, the Taliban killed him in front of his wife and daughters.
We verified 110 killings of Afghan forces since 2023, the last year the UN published a standalone report on the issue.

This includes soldiers from elite units who worked “shoulder to shoulder” with international special forces.
The Taliban promised them amnesty. Biden, Trump, and the UK vowed to help their Afghan allies. But our findings show that killings continue to this day.
