Agree, also the version of It Must Have Been the Roses from that album has always particularly stuck with me. Not sure if you’ve heard Jerry’s Breakdown from the Old & In The Way Live at the Boarding House tapes. Smooth and intricate as hell

Garcia’s banjo chops are ridiculous to me because he was missing his right middle finger and he still chose to play three-finger Scruggs style, I could go on about Jerry Garcia and bluegrass a long long time, thanks for bringing this to the top of my brain tonight

I also played a show (!) for the first time in forever (since the Obama administration I think), just my guitar and me and about 40 folks, and I ended with a singalong of This Year, and god, it feels incredible to hear that sung that back at you. I kept looping it like Paul does Na’s in Hey Jude

I read the bit about the moment you unlocked I-IV-V chords, and while that for me was playing The Beatles’ Act Naturally, I did think about how younger me learned songs by watching you play them on your black Takamine. And now when I see you live I get almost as stoked to see it as I do the band.

If there’s one thing about us, we sure will be doing some shit ad hoc

I’ve only been making them for about a year! I’ll be around at shows in 2026 as well (good lord willing, creek don’t rise, etc etc)

This monstrosity has two names, we haven’t decided: the possum king (à la rat king) or the possum chatelaine, since I wear it on my belt, usually. So many little guys. I’ve been loving receiving pictures of them when they all go to their forever homes after the show. Like a possum foster mom.

That wasn’t one of mine, but I was at that show and that moment was the primary inspiration for my copious possum output

The lady who sits in line before all the mountain goats shows crocheting little possums (that’s me, hi) thinks this is REAL NEAT thank you for sharing, good morning
