A very special first edition of The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall, Anne Bronte's brilliant, searing novel of abuse and courage which still resonates today. This belonged to Anne Bronte herself and was gifted to her friend Ellen Nussey.

#TheArchers Thinking about it, Helen has never had a man with a farming background. She might like a working partner. She could make sheepsmilk cheese or perhaps get some goats. It’s unlikely that she will move to Scotland, though.

#TheArchers #Childbirth it is many years since I gave birth but what has happened to breathing exercises & reciting a nursery rhyme at the height of the contraction? I am the worst of old wives because I found the experience quite bearable although I would not have wanted to do it every week for fun

This is worth reading. The point that the world's communication platforms are controlled by half a dozen self-interested (at best) billionaires is well made.

For all its faults, we *need* the BBC like never before. It's our responsibility, to ensure its safety.

Some tiny treasures from the Thames last week. The oldest is a clay tobacco pipe bowl, stem is missing, but dating from 1640-1680. Partial Georgian-era buckle, made from pewter, possibly from a shoe. Eurocoin token for a slot machine and a brass/paste brooch, shaped like a bow, could be 1950s.
