Living on a hill that overlooks NY Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Hoping that Liberty remains something more than just a statue in a harbor.

Idiot. How much do teachers make in Indiana or Nebraska? Now, tell me about their retirement system.

Cherry-picked stats don't tell the whole story, Bessent, you lying fool.

Many apologies. Turns out, I should look these things up before asking.

If one intends to profess a religion, one owes it to themself to understand what following that religion entails, what they should believe, and how that should influence how they conduct their life.

Claiming a label while ignoring even the basics damages how others view that religion. A lot.

I'll admit I'm biased against the idea of cryptocurrencies. I'll also admit that I enjoy having my ego stroked by articles that confirm my biases. That said, you still might want to read this:

"Not officially commemorate?!?"

From what I'm reading, it's a goddamned BLACKOUT! Utter denial! As close to a complete BOYCOTT as they can get away with, and a GAG ORDER on anyone who works there!

Holy crap-a-roo. I'm sure this has something misguided to do with their Christian Nationalism.

And a little more background:

MTA is a state agency. The City doesn't run the buses. Would the MTA be happy to accept a contract from the City to provide the buses for free? I'm pretty sure they would. One bonus to the MTA is they'd no longer have to service the fare boxes.

Start rice & water in rice cooker, or potato in microwave.
While that's going, put frozen chops in broiler with choice of seasonings. Wash, cut and put veg in pot. Turn chops.

Fresh dinner, not much longer than a frozen dinner takes. Cost, under $2.

NO HE EFFING WOULDN'T HAVE!

Politico NY Playbook newsletter, quoting Cuomo riffing on sour grapes, spilled milk, or something...

Hey, Cuomo, if you wanted the Republican vote, you should have run on that line! Schmuck.

Good, but not great. This was the easy way out, without finding perjury or criminal contempt against Halligan or dismissing the charges against Comey with prejudice.

From the NYT:

You know who DOESN'T want to see the price of oil go down? MBS and the rest of the Mideast Petro States. You know who else doesn't want to see the price of oil go down? US shale and oil sands producers. Below $50/bbl they'll start shutting down, and there goes our independence.

No, wait. That explanation is bullshit. Live cattle prices are actually down over the last few months. Here's what must really be happening: Consumers are pulling back on purchasing beef, so orders are down.

I'm pretty sure that if you were to ask Americans how they feel about people wearing symbols of their religion in public, it would depend a lot on which picture you showed them.

I think I've seen enough pictures of Mamdani to opine that that's not him smiling. That's his serious face.

This is a graph of the futures trading in the S&P500 over the last two days. It is bonkers to see price girations over 250 points in that time frame. This kind of volatility is rarely good news.

For those of you in your 70s who might not need your RMD from your retirement account right now, but are being forced to take it, consider taking advantage of the QCD provision. You can make sizable donations tax free and still get the full standard deduction.

Here are a few worthy orgs I support:

Is that container in the room with us now?

(That is utter nonsense, of course. "Special container?" There's no such thing. The White House flag is only raised or lowered by a Marine Honor Guard wearing white gloves. When lowered, it is removed and ceremonially folded.)

Bloomberg News' Editorial Board is lamenting the current state of college freshman math skills. #1 and #3 are simple arithmetic questions. #2 adds reading comprehension.

So, two questions for everyone:

How hard do you find these?
When did you graduate high school?

Me: Dead easy, and the '60s.

Sigh... Meanwhile a jury of twelve heard the prosecution and heard the defense, and rendered a verdict. EXCEPT in the case of those who PLEAD GUILTY!

How do you plead guilty and then demand reparations for being prosecuted?

In any event, none of these pardons had anything to do with justice.

Well, the problem with the 25th Amendment is that in order to remove the President, his incompetent Cabinet of minions, lackeys, myrmidons, and drunks, who are utterly dependent on him, would have to do the deed.

Mark Twain on lies (which he attributed to UK PM Disraeli):
"there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics"

The thing about trends and graphs is, as long as you can pick your starting point, you can make either case. Inflation is up the last several months, but down from 2022.
