I spend time with these kids regularly. So does my husband, a veteran teacher with a medical background, and both of us are concerned. I have zero idea how I should approach the subject. I've got social worker and therapist friends that I think I need to seek out for advice. I'm just so worried.

When I studied the old testament in undergrad, a professor once framed the entirety of the book as an "exasperated, but faithful lamentation." As an almost nun, and current woman whose career is politics adjacent, I have never forgotten that specific phrasing.

I have literally lived in Habakkuk for a year. It is my ultimate comfort in this season.

That's basically what I say when I am asked why the North keeps rebuffing all US outreach. My focus is human rights, sanctions and things like the dignity of humanity broadly, though, so no one listens to me.

My job is North Korea. We actually said the same thing during a meeting earlier today. 🙃
