This block celebrates the skilled workers of York's Carriage Works. The Carriage Works opened in 1884, at one point employing over 3000 people, before its closure in 1996.

Looking across the Presbytery crossing vaults at Salisbury Cathedral from the clerestory. The scissor arches are older than those at Wells Cathedral and may well have been the inspiration for them. On the roof can be seen the 'ghosts' of the original C13 murals and their C19 update.

The barrel-vaulted choir ceiling at Carlisle Cathedral. The decoration dates to restoration work carried out in 1853, but the main ceiling timbers are 14th century in date. 📸 My own. #Woodensday #CarlisleCathedral
