It's the last day you can expense something on your 2025 taxes. If only you could find one more write off that would pay you back ALL NEXT YEAR. Darling, I've got just the thing!

Get a subscription to Legends. You can go lifetime for $347 one time ever or annual for $99/year.

Buttondown released a run down of what they're shipping next year (and what shipped this year). One feature that caught my eye is the option to have embedded checkout (not take people to Stripe). Will be keeping an eye out for this

I'm giving myself the next two days to do business tasks that are not priorities but are more for fun.

Today's is setting up a business Pinterest and I'm archiving years of boards including this board I made about Top Golf?

I already hit my end of year paid subscriber goal 🎉 but if you haven't, you need to send more emails. Suck it up and write something. What's the worst that could happen?

I got another one of The Intercept's terrible appeals which made me wonder...who is doing this well?

NOT MANY. "Save journalism" is tired. "We can't do this without you" is boring. Here's 8 good appeals I found.

This is so extremely fucked up. Amazon is now scrapping indie ecommerce shops and pretending to sell their wares WITHOUT PERMISSION and making it difficult to opt out.

Creator ads are the most fun and they pay off in ways that are untrackable. Often creators will run more ads than you paid for or they will organically promote you. The cost per sub is higher than the others but these subs are more likely to buy, click and take action on your newsletter.

Google ads have been the hardest for me to figure out so I haven’t tested them much. They work for other publishers though.
December 29, 2025 at 2:21 PM
YouTube ads are the easiest to manage but hard to track when it comes to list growth. I do see the YouTube -> paid subscriber path already paying off and it seems like having videos that get seen and show up in search could help juice this.
December 29, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Facebook ads are the cheapest but don't be fooled by the low cost per sub. You'll want to test targeting to make sure you get the right people on your list and that can make your cost per sub go up.

If you're doing an end of year subscriber drive, here's the 8 best appeals I found in my inbox.

@coyotemedia.org's "A $68 COYOTE subscription is cheaper than an Oakland parking ticket" is a particular standout

There’s a fake account called “LinkedIn security” that is commenting with a phishing scam.

I reported two of their comments on my post this morning. LinkedIn determined that impersonating them + phishing on their platform does not violate their guidelines.
