Drain goes incredibly hard for a band saying nothing much at all. Like this is hardcore punk in sound only, as "is your friend" translates to "does not want to scare away any customers". In at 574.

Entries 571 to 580 of Every Album Ever, Ranked. ... is your friend enters at 574, just above Hüsker Dü's Warehouse and just below The Linda Lindas' No Obligation. Fave track is Scared of Everything and Nothing. The cover to Drain's Is Your Friend. A cabbage patch kid wearing a shark basking in the sun. Don't get it twisted, I do like the music. It's really good! I originally had this much higher! But the more I listened the more I realised this is almost vehemently opposed to any meaningful political statement. Even Loudest in the Room is about people loudly preaching "this or that" being the worst people. That's open to interpretation on such a wild scale that it comes off as hilariously centrist. This just... isn't punk. It's good times butt rock in disguise as hardcore, and that's... fine, really. Just disappointing. Oh and fuck Nothing but Love, a real "people are jealous of my success so I'll be nice" bullshit song I thought was satire but apparently nope it's not. This is the 811th album added to the list, the 99th from 2025, and as of this writing is the 88th best in year.

Aftermath are very good at this particular gimmick, successfully getting "nuh-uh!" responses from both sides of a subject.

Engagement bait? Maybe, but at least the articles are substantive.

Incredibly funny? Yes. Every time.

Weezer's teal album is maybe trying to wink too hard at the listener about the goofiness of cover albums, and forgets to give the majority of material any real identity beyond the level of karaoke. Some gems still at 784.

Entries 781 to 790 of Every Album Ever, Ranked. Weezer's Teal album enters at 784, just above Something Corporate's Ready Break and just below Hanoi Rocks' Back to Mystery City. Fave track is No Scrubs The cover (ha) to Weezer's Teal album, featuring the band in corny 80s outfits. Cover albums are already a hard sell in most genres beyond country. Either the work is a shadow of its former self, an uncomfortable faux-karaoke-fest, or the material covered is so passionately loved by the cover artist that it transforms utterly in their hands. So what of Weezer's Teal album? Well, it's all of those, isn't it. Africa is the foundation of the album due to its roots as a random internet campaign, but it's that very foundation that makes it sound like a weak karaoke performance. Rivers isn't that invested in his vocal performance, the instrumentation feels like a basic job, it's... a bad cover. Everybody Wants to Rule the World feels like a more eager recreation, but that firmly enters shadow of former self territory due to it just not being in Rivers' range. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) is pretty great, a surprisingly good fit for the band that makes you wonder how their black album could have turned out if they got this rich, treacly synth-laden sound in there instead of more... Weezer. In a way that's another special frustration to cover albums; they show you how an artist could be better or more varied in their own work. Take On Me has been covered better by Reel Big Fish, and probably by about anyone. Bad job, wild that this would be given a high effort music video. Bridge is good though. Happy Together marks the start of the 'good zone', a four track streak where inspiration has really hit, and has some fantastic drums and vocals in particular. Paranoid lets Brian Bell at the mic, and you can tell he REALLY wanted to do this song. Like it's no Ozzy, but as covers go it's really capable. A good time. Mr. Blue Sky is apparently where Rivers was hiding his ability to hit a single high note, and it makes it feel more naturalistic for that simple act of not flatting everything to his typical range. OOPS CHARACTER LIMIT, NEXT SLIDE WHERE WERE WE: No Scrubs is clearly an idea that tickled the band, made into something brilliant by a refusal to half-arse it or do those lazy cover song tricks of flipping genders to suit those of the performers, something Rivers went with because he saw a tweet calling people out on the idea. For those three minutes you're gay. Billie Jean is a bad cover song, despite the high effort seven hour recording of the vocals. Stand By Me is a bad cover song, and I should know, a cover of it was the first dance song at my wedding. I remember a review saying that this is an album where Weezer don't try to make any songs their own, but all the songs sound like Weezer and... yeah that's basically the problem in a nutshell. This is the 810th album added to the list.

Rochelle Jordan's latest is the sort of timeless dance music that amazes and dazzles me, and I cannot believe it has not simply always existed. Instant classic at 178.

Entries 171 to 180 of Every Album Ever, Ranked. Through the Wall lands at 178, just above Lily Allen's Alright, Still, and just below Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot. Fave track is Ladida The cover to Rochelle Jordan's Through the Wall. That's Rochelle. In grayscale. A part of my brain simply cannot accept this isn't a part of the 90s dance music scene that seared itself into my soul as a literal infant. But it also doesn't feel like a throwback. It's every bit as essential, as contemporary, as timeless, as immense as anything else in the genre, and I can see this becoming the most important album of this year. You cannot miss this. This is the 809th album added to the list, the 98th from 2025, and as of this writing is the 7th best in year. No matter what, this isn't leaving the top ten.

This is something special. A symphonic, operatic pop album in over ten languages, channelling divinity and sainthood while remaining an incredibly human work, showcasing Rosalía at her true peak. In at 125.

The cover to Rosalía's LUX, featuring Rosalía in a white garb with like a... a nun hood. The nun hood. I used to know what that was called. Anyway her arms are up inside her clothes, grasping herself with what appears to be an acceptance and love for oneself. Also her lips are gold. This is fucking unbelievable. It feels like we'll be talking about this for years upon years. Real classic energy. This is the 808th album added to the list, the 97th from 2025, and as of this writing is the 2nd best album of 2025. It will probably remain there.

This is the first album Danny has made since getting sober and that's a beautiful thing, and yet it still feels secondary to how he reps trans creators better than anyone else on his level in the industry. Weekend Weezer has served us Pacific Daydream, an inoffensive and catchy summer pop album that is, frankly, unduly hated by a fanbase that was given too much hope for classic Weezer stylings from the last two albums. In at 674.

This album isn't a hill I'll die on, but when like 7/10 songs are enjoyable bops I'll put on rotation every summer then maybe the Weezer fans are just weak little fucking babies. Better than Hurley, better than Red, CERTAINLY better than fucking Raditude. One might even consider it the bang average middle of the pack Weezer album, but I have a few more to rank before I can say that. This is the 806th album added to the list.

Witch Fever are absolutely my specific sort of shit, and on second album FEVEREATEN they're delivering glorious doom punk with strained screams that feel more real than real. A true gem at 319.

Entries 316 to 325 of Every Album Ever, Ranked. FEVEREATEN enters at 319, just above Buzzcocks' Another Music in a Different Kitchen, and just below Dream Theater's Metropolis Part 2. Fave track is Northstar. The cover to Witch Fever's Fevereaten, featuring the band in a foggy room all goth-like. Following previous album Congregation, you'd think the band would want to move a bit further away from agonising over religious trauma, but Amy Hope Walpole clearly has more demons to exorcise from her and her family's breaking away from a church and religion that failed them, and the result is still as raw as ever, if not more powerful with time refined as a band. I mentioned the screams in the main skeet and it's worth repeating how good the screaming is. Like I kind of resent that screaming in music is often this theatrical, carefully honed thing, entering a guttural state with control and tone or a rasped screech that trades authenticity for listenability. This isn't that. This is the shout in an argument, a scream of anguish, the sound of real pain escaping in an emotional outburst. It might not actually *be* any more or less authentic than more typical metal screams, but it feels like it for the messiness of it. I love it on most tracks, especially Northstar and Safe, which are easily the runaway hit tracks for me off of this. This is the 803rd album added to the list, the 93rd from 2025, and as of this writing is the 30th best in year.

Die Spitz have delivered one of the most confident and cohesive debut albums of the decade with Something to Consume, an unmissable bit of punk rock with wit and heavy riffs at 320.

Entries 316 to 325 of Every Album Ever, Ranked. Something to Consume enters at 320, just above Home Counties' Humdrum and just below Buzzcocks' Another Music in a Different Kitchen. Fave track is Pop Punk Anthem (sorry for the delay) The cover to Die Spitz' Something to Consume. A swirling distorted bit of renaissance art-inspired imagery, featuring a sharp-toothed mouth about to go to town on some women. The back cover is doing the whole Saturn devouring son thing but that isn't pictured. I feel like Die Spitz's influences are on their sleeve, a lot of stuff that feels like Hole, Nirvana, Distillers, even dashes of Iron Maiden, Sabbath, just the loudest and most intense stuff, but there's no denying that the end result is Die Spitz. The sharp approach to rotating duties in the band means they can sound fresh as heck on each individual track with a different woman on the mic, and yet it never becomes eclectic. They're all on mission, they're all Die Spitz. ... maybe this should be higher. This is the 802nd album added to the list, the 92nd from 2025, and as of this writing is the 30th best in year.

Isabella Lovestory's second album delivers on a wide range of material, taking the themes of vanity and self love to a good few places while also making massively cunty latin rap and danceable pop. In at 445.

This album took almost half a year to place, and is almost definitely my most listened to unranked album over that time period. Just kept... putting it off, despite loving it. Fuck, didn't even make the top 50. Insane year. Too much music.

Chumbawamba's sophomore effort is a depressingly relevant dismantling of the political system and the shysters who exploit you for your vote, an unimaginably good listen that makes you seethe and smile at 101.

Entries 96 to 105 of Every Album Ever, Ranked. Never Mind the Ballots enters at 101, just above Beastie Boys' Check Your Head and just below Beckma Odelay. True story, it was drafted in above Odelay, but even I knew I was pushing it. Fave track is ...HERE'S THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. The cover to Chumbawamba's Never Mind the Ballots, featuring a square panel, one suited arm holding a checked ballot in one corner, and in the opposite one five fists rasied. As images go it is maybe Chumbawamba's most powerful and direct. This album is unbelievable in its timelessness. It opens on two near-identical politicians mewling for your vote with promises of maybe eventually doing what you want, and promising everything from war to police brutality. It goes from this to critiques of bands profiteering off of the promise of revolution (when often only selling the liberal option), to a religious sermon worshipping at the font of government, accompanied by the chilling chant of "Though they broke my legs, they gave me a crutch to walk". And then Here's The Rest of Your Life kicks in, which is everything from critique to lament to a desperate plea from music's greatest anarchists to "organise! Here's the rest of our lives!". Action must be taken. Action must STILL be taken. We must be organised against the current system to have anything of a life, proven true every day as those in power tread upon the necks of the world's most vulnerable to boost their own wealth and secure their safety as Renfields to the horrifying vampires that reign over all. I'm tearing up, that's mad what the fuck. Towards the end we have a statement of faith in anarchy, that I will quote below: "We can and will run the factories and mills. We can and will educate ourselves. We can and will work the fields. We can and will police ourselves. We can and will create and build." Organise. Here's the rest of our lives. This is the 800th album added to the list. I am thankful for it and for you.
