i'd go even further and say there is a reason even nixon kept this kind of stuff to himself. you would have to go back quite a bit to find a point at which is acceptable for a president to say anything like this *in public*, to say nothing of in the oval office.
I don’t want to be pollyannish about the past, but it was basically inconceivable twenty years ago that a president would say this publicly
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

This is why I thought elbows up was bullshit because at the end of the day this country has made folding to opposition a national pastime. Weakness blankets this country like snow
STAND UP damnit
This sounds like the weakness of principles that is a tenet of this country’s behaviour. First of all that is…unlikely. Second the Canadian economy is already going to feel the effects of the U.S.

this really isn’t an exaggeration
This man may be the most racist president this country has ever had, and twelve presidents owned slaves

One thing I feel super dumb about not having learned until this stage of the collapse is how much of the danger of hyper inequality has nothing to do with the poverty it creates. The hyper wealthy just become way, way too fucking powerful.

It’s worth reminding ourselves again that we wouldn’t have Trump wrecking the United States & the world were it not for NBC, AND PARTICULARLY MARK BURNETT, creating the REAL “Big Lie” — that he was a successful businessman. They also hid his racism, his “creepy” (to say the least) tendencies, etc.
Why an Apprentice Exec Broke His Silence About Donald Trump: “He Would Like to Be a Dictator”
In an interview with VF, former NBC chief marketing officer John Miller regrets mythologizing Trump’s business savvy and recalls the host’s “racist tendencies,” creepy pageant behavior, and how he cou...

The LPC has the most organized trolls in Canada... but they'll never block Charlie, they need him as a sounding board, and to help identify which of HIS followers need blocking....
When referencing the work of the Parliamentary budget office gets you blocked by the Liberal troll army.
As for being an empty suit?
Oh contraire... I am struggling to make sure I still fit into my suit.
Getting to the point I might have to Block Charlie.

Bleating from the sidelines is easy, even PP can do it. And he is an empty suit.

What is your solution?

Following Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin's refusal to say whether or not a new pipeline would contribute to climate change yesterday, that makes two major figures in Carney's government who have been unsure about the environmental impact of a new pipeline to export oil to be burned overseas.

Think about how carefully every word in a Bank of Canada announcement is weighed, and the premium central banks put on maintaining credibility.
Then consider Carney's blasé approach to his promise to May only days earlier.
These are not the actions of a prudent leader.
Short-term thinking, indeed.
I'm not convinced that PM Goldman Sachs is an abstract, long-term thinker. And this hasn't just damaged his relationship with May; now other parties have reason not to trust him.
