I suppose you could make the argument that Clan government as implemented makes much less sense for strict, monogamous societies. But there's no reason to restrict it for characters who are already polygamous or have concubinage.

If I'm a Turko-Persian Kyrgyz chieftain in the 900s who wants to reshape my rule around the governmental ideas I've been exposed to but I'm still Tengri or I went Buddhist or something, I'm going to be looking to the Muslims. It doesn't make sense to adopt European-style feudalism at all.

Yeah, that's already allowed though. Anyone can go from Tribe to Feudal.

It's clearly not a combination of things that breaks the game because you can already convert religion as a Clan ruler and keep the Clan government. They just don't let you arrive at the same result by a different path.

It should really be available as a decision to anyone in Africa, Central/Western Asia, and probably also Gaelic heritage.

Getting stuck causes players to explore the world.

Dying causes players to think about what they're doing.

An "impossible" situation causes players to learn how the game works and eventually achieve the impossible.

We need to be able to design *some* games around these fundamental ideas.

I didn't realize you came from a wealthy aristocratic family

What does it care about? What does it reward you for? It's not really learning tough boss patterns or even necessarily being good at the combat. It's not having a good build. It's exploring. And it rewards exploring mainly with more exploration. That's pretty much a Metroid game.

This is part of the reason I think people get annoyed when you compare everything to Dark Souls. Every action game at this point is taking notes from Dark Souls. But to be a "Soulslike" it's not enough to copy a few mechanics. Maybe "Souls-esque" would make sense. But this is an exploration game.

Like, let's ask ourselves: What does this actually have in common with a souls game? You drop your xp on death. You have a checkpoint-based refilling health potion. There is a parry button. Like, these are mechanics, not game design philosophies. They're instruments, not the melody.

Not even just in terms of mechanics, but like structurally, the levels are built in this way where you can loop and weave back between them several times if you're good at exploring to find the next thing that bypasses a certain kind of obstacle.

Yeah, the more I mess with it the more I think this is exactly the problem. Whatever stand-in they were using for the mocap is too heavy. It's balanced almost like a bastard sword or something, the way it moves is all wrong.

It's still up on Nebula. Worth a one-month sub just to show you don't support YouTube caving and censoring this type of message.

Apparently I got the titles switched in my head, I mean Fallen Order when I say "the first one."

Yeah apparently I did too.

Once you get to the second and third planets you see how much "we put a huge amount of effort into the first 45 minutes that is not replicated elsewhere" is going on here

Oh I got the names mixed up apparently.

Cal kinda fights like a dingus and I'm not sure if that's intentional. Like he's a Padawan, of course he's kind of unpolished, and then it gets more fluid later on. But if this is how the combat just is for the entire thing I am not especially impressed.
