During the French revolution, only around 10-20% of the population of France spoke french. We view the people of that place and time as being a unified nation, but that was far from true. The complexity was there, and everywhere, all the time, throughout history. More interesting stuff if you ask me

I'm not saying people aren't motivated by greed, malice, or indifference, but that we should be more open to the idea that people can be fundamentally different from each other and still be part of a community, country, and world.

Online isn't any different. We have such a hard time conceptualizing that anyone feel, think, or behaves differently. And if they do we attribute that to "evil". I get uncomfortable with that practice as someone from a culture who other's have labeled with such terms.
People are more complex.

you see this in speculative fiction. Whole species, worlds, even galaxies are condensed into singular concepts. Vulcans and logic, elves and nature, etc. One god, one language, one people. Here in the real world i feel like people down the street live on an alien planet with incomprehensible views
