New post just out:

Why the criminal justice system should be top of No. 10's "shit list".

No part of the public sector is more broken or brings with it greater political risk. As we saw these past two weeks.

It desperately needs a new approach.

The generation that experienced WW2 knew how bad things could get. The horrors that they had directly experienced in Coventry, on Omaha, at Belsen, Bastogne, Dresden, Nanjing & Tokyo meant that they understood how dangerous THIS was. This is where all that started.

Mazur "the inadvertent result" of Legal Services Act drafting
The Mazur ruling likely came about because the Legal Services Act 2007 inadvertently failed to codify what had been custom in the legal profession for a long time, two experts have argued.

Well now, on initial gas safety certificates and s.21 notices, we have a county court appeal judgment by HHJ Clarke (an excellent judge), which directly contradicts that of HHJ Bloom (an excellent judge) in Byrne v Delgado.

It is extraordinary, but grimly inevitable, that the people most responsible for hobbling the UK have become the loudest & whiniest critics of the consequences of their own actions. A big part of the process lies in people like ‘Lord’ Hannan actually being *rewarded* for their ignorant delinquency.

Happy Star Wars Day!

Here is UK Supreme Court in 2011 saying incorrectly "The Star Wars films are set in an imaginary, science-fiction world of the future".

For as everyone knows they are set not in the future, but "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...".

This letter from Tony Vaughan KC, the MP for Folkestone, is the clearest articulation I’ve seen on the flaws of the interim update from the EHRC. The section titled ‘Legal Incoherence’ hits the nail on the head.

No, Britain did not get off lightly in the Trump tariffs. And no, it is not much of a vindication of Brexit. Or at the least seeing it is an economic dividend is to conveniently look away from the more substantial economic costs.

New writing from me.
