I grew up in an immigrant aspiring blue-collar neighborhood in 1950s Chicago. We knew we weren’t rich, but we had a park like every other neighborhood. It had a pool a field house, basketball courts, water-fountains, ponds a handball court, library branch and green. Our color didn’t matter.

#writingprompt #storystarter I planned my escape at age 5, walked out at 16, never looked back. I could not accept the family lore we were fated to be blue collar, have a bitter drunk in situ & it was a reasonable excuse and right for beating his wife. No fight to petty. You can break the cycle.
