In the #FeMoPhys project, leaf gas exchange and #sapflow were measured to investigate the temporal lag between stem water transport and leaf gas exchange, while also testing sap flow as a tool to estimate leaf-level gas exchange in mature trees. Preliminary results were presented at this years GFÖ!

In this study, we attempt to shift the perspective on near-ground forest microclimate towards smaller organisms. We aimed to quantify how ground cover type further modifies air temp., air humidity and soil temp. on small scales. Our initial findings were presented at this year's GFÖ in Würzburg!

Last week, the international student excursion to the high Tatra mountains (Slovakia) took place. We explored the mountains and talked about natural and cultural landscape-forming processes. Among other things, there was a 20km hike, an overnight stay in a mountain hut, and a visit to an ice cave.

Just rediscovered a beautiful picture from last winter. Here we were installing a temperature profile (5 and 10 m) on the tree.

That moment when the cables for the crane get wet and you have to use the construction site generator to use a small hot fan to dry the cables 👩‍🔬 #science

Have you already been on a company outing this year? What did you do? We went on a short canoe trip on the Peene

Yesterday was a beautiful day to read out the data halfway through our crown microclimate measurements

Dear dendro community, we need your swarm intelligence!

How do you deal with the resin on your sap flow sensors? To pull them out, we currently use a heat gun on low to heat the needles, not the sensor head. Do you have any other tips?

Part 2: Scientists in a crane, putting things in trees.

We are interested in the microclimate of the crowns. #FeMoPhys @gfz.bsky.social

Part of our work includes a monitoring of the forest micro climate. Here you can see one of our sensor stations for near-ground micro climate on an open forest floor patch. Other sensors are located in herbaceous & rejuvenation patches or used as height profiles up into the canopy.

We are delighted that our employee, Andreas Burger, has been awarded the Camillo-Schneider-Preis for his Master's thesis: “Forests without European ash? A first dendroecological assessment of Ulmus laevis as potential replacing tree species”

Here are some impressions from one of our measurement campaigns at our site near Demmin. We are interested in stomatal viability, chrolophyll content and phytosynthetic activity. The measurements are carried out in cooperation with the TU Berlin.
